Created in the mid- nineteenth century, basing itself on the work and research conducted by two naturalists from Nice, J.B.Vernary and J.B. Barla, the Natural History Museum was Nice's very first museum. Over one million specimens covering the fields of geology and botany are currently stored in the museum's reserves. A library abounding with over 80,000 works is open by appointment.
